HeroDevs Joins OpenJS Foundation’s Ecosystem Sustainability Program as First Partner
HeroDevs Partners with OpenJS Foundation to Ensure Open Source Sustainability and Security
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SANDY, UT – HeroDevs is proud to announce its role as the inaugural partner in the newly launched Ecosystem Sustainability Program (ESP) by the OpenJS Foundation. This pioneering initiative aims to bolster the security and sustainability of the JavaScript and web ecosystem through innovative commercial partnerships and new sponsorship opportunities.
Securing the Future of Open Source with the ESP
The Ecosystem Sustainability Program (ESP) was developed to address critical issues within the JavaScript community, particularly those related to the maintenance and sustainability of open-source projects. As the flagship ESP partner, HeroDevs will collaborate closely with the OpenJS Foundation and its associated projects to offer specialized services that protect archived and end-of-life projects, and older versions of current projects still in use.
Through the ESP, HeroDevs and the OpenJS Foundation are addressing two significant issues in open source sustainability security for legacy open source projects and project funding. The partnership will ensure companies using older, unsupported versions of open source can stay secure through HeroDevs commercial end-of-life support services. HeroDevs will donate a portion of all proceeds from the sale of its services to the OpenJS Foundation and its open source projects for future innovation and development.
“We’re honored to be the first company to support the Ecosystem Sustainability Program for the OpenJS Foundation,” said Joe Eames, Vice President of Partnerships at HeroDevs. “Our mission has always been to keep end-of-life projects secure and supported. This program allows us to extend our reach and impact, ensuring that maintainers can focus on innovation and development without the burden of unsupported software.”
Robin Bender Ginn, Executive Director of the OpenJS Foundation, added, “We're not just fostering innovation at OpenJS; we're investing in the longevity of our shared digital ecosystem. Together with partners like HeroDevs, we're building a sustainable culture that secures the future of our communities and projects.”
The ESP offers organizations a significant opportunity to contribute to the health and longevity of crucial open-source projects.
“Supporting this program is a fantastic way to back key open-source projects while providing long-term support for older software versions no longer maintained,” remarked Tobie Langel, OpenJS Foundation board director and vice chair of the Cross Project Council. “This initiative creates a win-win situation by offering commercial support to organizations and contributing to the project's ongoing health.”
